About the event

Food has always been more than nourishment — it is how we care for one another, preserve culture, and build community through change.

In this interactive, hands-on cooking class, participants will cook and share dishes from Black, Mexican, and Asian food traditions rooted in resilience, migration, and everyday community care. Together, we’ll prepare comforting, accessible recipes connected to cultural moments like New Year’s gatherings, harvest seasons, family meals, and communal cooking traditions.

The class includes:

  • Hands-on cooking in small groups

  • Cultural stories behind each dish

  • A shared community meal and guided reflection
